A one way public transport ticket costs 1 or 2 Euros approx., in case you used the public transport you could save on buying a 1, 3 or 7 days (weekly) pass. At the cashiers you can also ask for the ‘Budapest Card’.
By taxi:
If you arrive late at night and are at least 2 people you will make a better business if you take a taxi. There will always be available taxies at the exit of the airport - They have a small desk right outside the building that sells a fixed price for CCA – 8 Eur/5.000Huf.
If you travel on your own we reckon you take the shuttle bus that can also be booked at the exit of airport (this desk will be inside the building).
We do know honest and reasonably priced (okay this is not a guarantee, but please complain and do not pay if you are overcharged – which is not usual, but could happen), so just ask us!
* It is always better to call a taxi by phone as this will demonstrate your loyalty to a particular company and you will be awarded with a cheaper price.
By car:
Look for ‘Centre of Budapest’ sign (‘Budapest központ’), ask for Astoria, Déak tér, Károly körút (everybody knows them, the first 2 at least).
In the weekdays, you can park in the street for a few hours (in 2-2 hour’s intervalum). Only if you pay on the machines (leave the paler on the car window). The street parking is free from late Friday to early Monday morning.
By walk:
If you do not have heavy luggage and like walking you can walk up to the hostel from Keleti or Nyugati Railway Station, it is easy to find the way and may be interesting to see the ‘real’ Budapest.
From Keleti (Eastern) Railway Station Budapest:
Take the Rakoczi út (út = street) towards Astoria, then turn left to Károly körút (Avenue), the hostel will be 200 m on the right hand side. It will be about 30-40 min walk.
From Nyugati (Western) Railway Station Budapest:
Take Bajcsi Zsilinsi út towards Deák tér, the Bajcsi Zsilinsi út. with a slight left turn, continue on Károly körút (körút = avenue). The hostel will be 5-7 min walk on the left hand side after you reach Károly Avenue.
You can walk from any other point to the hostel of course, just look for ‘Centre of Budapest’ (‘Budapest központ’) sign, ask for Astoria, Déak tér and Károly körút (everybody knows them, the first 2 ones for sure!).
By Bike:
You shall have a bike map with a route you have to do as not all the streets are suitable for biking. There are bike ways but you have to be prepared as sometimes, you may end up into big traffic. People and cars do not take the bicycle transportation seriously, unfortunately, so do not expect them to give you priority.
Look for ‘Centre of Budapest’ - ‘Budapest központ’ sign, ask for Astoria, Déak tér and Károly körút.
