Hi Everyone!!!

Just a few pointers before you post in Packing!!

FREE CHECKLIST for 1st. Timers

Dear First Timers,
This is a checklist for those Eurailing through Europe and staying in hostels.
Most Americans overpack!
NOTE: This list is just a rough draft.
Subject to personal opinions/preference, budget, etc.

If you take everything on this list,
YOU HAVE PACKED TOO MUCH CRAP!

A GIRL'S guide to GLAMOUR while traveling

Okay, first of all, there’s nothing intrinsically glamourous about budget traveling, but maybe I can share some tips to make your roughing-it a little less rough.

First of all, there is the showering issue. I took along with me a hanging shower kit (eagle creek) with mesh bags that held anything I would need for a trip to the showers. The bag unzipped and could be hung from the shower head, with everything you need right there.

Is this pack too much?

What kind of camera?

I’m spending three months in Europe, I thought about getting a DSLR but don’t want the added bulk.

I want something compact that does not scarifice high picture quality, wide angle lens, and HD movie recording capabilities.

Here’s my current choice: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/Cameras-Camcorders/Digital-Cameras/2010-LUMIX-Digital-Cameras/model.DMC-ZS7K_11002_7000000000000005702

Anyone have experience with this line… suggestions?

Taking a DSLR Camera

I have a Cannon DSLR camera that I mainly use while SCUBA diving. Now I’m taking a trip back to Europe, and am going to leave the underwater casing with some family over there while I meet up with some friends and we go backpacking around Europe for three weeks or so. I would like to take my camera with me, but am unsure of how it would work. Obviously I would need another bag, but would I need to have this bag strapped to me along with my main backpack, and how would I carry it like that, or would it be better for me to strap it to the backpack?

Backpack for small female

Hi everyone,

I have been looking around online at backpacks for my 7 week trip this summer. I am looking predominantly for a pack that I can carry on to planes, that is panel loading, and that does not have a detachable daypack. have grown attached to the Osprey Porter 46 online since it fits these criteria, but I am a little concerned that since it comes in just one size it will be too large for my small frame.

Quick Visa Question

I’m planning a 4-6 month backpacking trip around Western Europe for next year with my fiance and I’m not sure if a Schengen visa is needed. We’re looking to backpack for the first 3 months (8-10 countries) , then route back to Italy and settle somewhere for the final 1-3 months. We are both U.S. citizens.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

What to take this summer???

I’m planning a eurotrip for summer 2010 and I was wondering what I should take and how large a backpack I should get (or borrow from a friend). I will be traveling for about 30 days from the end of June to the end of July. What should I bring??? As for backpack size I am 5’10 and about 175-180 pounds (looking at past posts it seems the size of the backpack also depends on size of the person). What do people feel would be a reasonable size for this trip and what is the smallest size I could get away with?

Parents going to Italy - What adapter should I get them?

My parents are going to be taking a trip to Italy this month and I’ve been researching to see what kind of gear they’ll need to take. From what I understand, the dominant socket standard in Italy is type L (CEI 23-16/VII). My research has also brought me to the conclusion that there are two distinct types of type L sockets – one of which (10A) is compatible with ‘Euro-plugs’ and one of which (16A) is not. (Is that correct?)

So I’m wondering what type of adapter I need to get for non-grounded US appliances?
