Not sure what I’m missing here. planning on travelling via eurail, possibly flying if i’m short of time. am i pushing myself too hard here? do i need to allow more time for distances etc – i’m willing to take overnight trains.
Think you are pushing it a bit hard, too many one and two day stop’s in there. If you have 90 day’s try not to rush it because in that time you will see plenty of Europe in that time, also on this length of trip try not to over plan, have a rough idea of where you want to go and be flexible.
And to add to what davy said, since you will traveling mostly in the Fall, you have the advantage of being able to be a bit more spontaneous since hostels and the such don’t fill up as quickly.
I’m hoping i’ll be able to keep most of the trip spontaneous. but then again, i want to make the most of the time i have over there. At the time i’m travelling, do you think booking hostels in advance is necessary, or can i rely on same-day bookings? And from your experience, how long do i need to make train reservations in advance?
Generally same day booking’s will be fine. The end of August and start of September are still in peak times so it may be harder then, My suggestion would be to perhaps get a fairly set itinerary for the 1st couple of week’s, this will get you into the way of it and not have much to worry about then just go with the flow. Generally you can book the train on the same day and you will be fine although I generally book it a day or 2 ahead to be safe.
