Hey, so, yeah, I have restructed things a bit. I am going just to the UK now. Basically this is how I’ve got it worked out:
Leave Atlanta Sept 6, flying into London; arrive Sept 7, 7am.
    Sept 8 (My birthday!!) London.
Sept 9 Stonehenge day trip. (will be back in plenty of time to catch…) Night bus to Edinburgh at 11:30pm. (megabus company)
Sept 10 8am arrive in Edinburgh. Castle Rock or High St Hostel.
Sept 11-13 MacBackpackers 3-day Monsters and Myths tour. (goes all over northern Scotland incl. Inverness, Oban, Isle of Skye, etc.) Afternoon/evening of 13th, arrive back in Edinburgh.
    Sept 14 Edinburgh.
Sept 15… so on this day I had a day in between when I wanted to leave Edinburgh and when I wanted to arrive in Cardiff. Also I had a hard time finding a way to get to Cardiff from Edinburgh that wasn’t ungodly expensive. So as I was checking out Megabus, I saw that they have a bus from Edinburgh-Manchester and Manchester-Cardiff on the same day but the arriving bus comes in around 10:30am and the departing bus leaves around 18:00. So I figured I could find something interesting to do for 7.5 hours in Manchester. There looks to be a couple cool (FREE) museums there anyway, to keep me occupied.
    Sept 16-17 Cardiff.
Sept 18 Cardiff in the morning; departing for London early/mid-afternoon.
    Sept 19-20 London again.
Sept 21 depart London-Gatwick for Atlanta!

Don’t worry too much about me on the night bus, I can sleep just about anywhere LOL. And I don’t figure it can be any less comfortable than an overnight plane ride, not much is. I just take a motion sickness medicine and conk out ASAP.

The budget is for everything except my flight which is around $830. I’ve priced it all out and everything seems to come in right around my estimate. Please let me know if I’ve under or over-estimated anything: **Total on the ground (minus food): around $800 (this includes hostels, transportation, and sightseeing. If you want to see a price list, lemme know. I’ve got one in excel) **Food: about $335 (I estimated about £15/day for 14 days plus a little bit on the leaving day) Is this a good amount or am I kidding myself? I plan to mostly buy at the grocery store but will also buy from street stands and pubs (nothing expensive). Oh and I’m only staying at hostels that provide breakfast in the morning so this is for lunch and dinner only. I won’t be drinking much except on my birthday but I’m hoping to buy a few beers at a grocery store or something and celebrate in the hostel rather than go to any clubs or stuff. **Souvenirs/extra: $100 **Travel insurance: $60.

I’ve also calculated the pound-to-dollar conversion rate a bit higher than it’s currently running (I did $1.55=£1, but right now it’s around $1.50=£1), but of course, I have no idea what it will be in September. I hope it stays low-ish like it is now. It was down to $1.48 a few days ago but it’s creeping back up a little since then.

Changed dates just slightly since I got my tickets last week; got a super deal on my flight (over $200 cheaper!) leaving Sept 8-23 instead of 6-21 so I took it!
This is what I’m thinking for now: (subject to change of course)
Leaving Sept 8 pm from Atlanta, arrive Sept 9.
    London Sept 9-12.
Travel to Stonehenge/Salisbury Sept 13 am, continuing on to Cardiff in the pm.
    Cardiff Sept 14-15.
Sept 16 traveling from Cardiff to Edinburgh (long day, mostly traveling the whole time; change over in either Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle).
    Edinburgh Sept 17.
Sept 18-20 MacBackpackers tour. Back in Edinburgh the evening of the 20th.
Sept 21 Edinburgh again. night bus to London.
Sept 22 London for my final day in the UK.
    Sept 23 fly home!

Booked my hostel in London!! Astor Museum Inn, for only $18/£12 per night! Look out London, I’ll be there Sept 9-12!

HostelBookers is waaaaaaaaay cheaper than HostelWorld, btw.

I’m a little worried about the exchange rate between £ and $ as it’s going back up and I’m scared now I won’t be able to do everything I’d like… crossed fingers for it to go down again Thinking about couchsurfing in Wales to save a bit of money, and also will be using megabus.com quite a bit as well.

Well, I’m just picky and wanted to be sure that I am able to stay in my first choices. Also, since I’ll only be gone 2 weeks, my itinerary is fairly planned out (I definitely know where I’ll be when) so it would only make sense to go ahead and book.

Just an update: I’ve got almost everything booked. Got one more bus/train ticket to work out, can’t decide if bus or train would be better/cheaper/easier for the journey between Manchester to Edinburgh; and besides that, my last night’s sleeping arrangement is also not booked yet, as I might sleep in the airport that night instead, since my flight home is very early… I figure it’s a 9hr flight, I can always sleep on the plane if I don’t get any in the terminal.
Train between London-Salisbury/Salisbury-Cardiff, bus from Cardiff-Manchester, and night bus from Edinburgh-London all booked. I *love* megabus.com cheap fares!! £1.50 from London to Salisbury, same from Cardiff-Manchester, and £6 for the night bus Also got a super deal on the National Rail website for the Salisbury to Cardiff train for only £5.50.
MacBackpackers tour in Scotland has been booked for a while now.
Hostels booked in all cities but I will be canceling my hostel in Cardiff (which I got deposit insurance for, thankfully, so I get that deposit refunded) because I found a CouchSurfing host. Smile I’m just waiting til a little bit closer to departure to actually cancel it (only has to be at least 48hrs before arrival in Wales) just to make sure the CS host works out. But it’s gonna save me around $100 for 3 nights’ stay, so I’m totally down.

Less than 6 weeks to go til I leave!!!!!
