Would love to hear advice on budget (I just picked $3000 randomly), order in which to do the cities, when to book flights etc etc. All I know is I will be going from Mid Nov til around Christmas end of 2013 and I want to hit London (lots of people to visit), Paris (have accommodation), Germany (mostly Berlin but perhaps some other places), Amsterdam (been there before, love it), and then fly back to Bris. Should I add in any more places close by (ie Belgium, Prague for example?)

I’d add some additional cities in Ireland. You’ll want to experience more of the country than just it’s capital city. You could ask for suggestions for 6 days in Ireland on our “favorite places” forum. I’d add Prague, Brugges or Brussels and plan some day trips from Paris.

Thanks. Yeah I definitely wasn’t going to spend the whole time in Dublin, just fly into there. Am keen to see Prague and Brugges! What do you think is a budget I should aim for for about 5 weeks abroad? Most likely will have accom in London and Paris.

Also any advice about the order in which I could structure the trip would be much appreciated!

I think US dollar and Australian dollar are roughly equivalent right now. Basic backpacker-style budget, per person….

Airfare to/from Europe: ?????
City to city transportation: $150 per week mostly by train, with the occasional bus, ferry or cheap flight. Spending a week each in Paris and London will cut this.
Daily living: $75 to $100 per day for hostel, local transportation (subways, buses, trams), food, admission fees, laundry, misc. I’d cut this by about $35 for every day you’ve got free accommodation, although you might spend a bit extra on local transit since your friends probably don’t live in city center or the middle of the tourist attractions you want to see.
Emergency cash: $200

I would also look into seeing if you could do a open jaw flight instead of backtracking to London. Are you flying back to Australia after the trip?

Open jaw is essentially a multi-city flight or two one way tickets. Can be only slightly more expensive (or the same price) but will save you money and time.
