hello everyone,
need help regarding transportation, budget & accommodations.
Even if you fly to Greece (probably the best option) you’re likely to kill a full day getting there and a full day getting to your next destination. That’s not, IMO,worth the time and money to get there. I’d save Greece for a future trip when you can spend a week (preferably two) there and get to other parts of the Greek mainland and at least an island or two. The other option to make this workable would be to save Barcelona for another trip.
Why Milan? Why Vienna? Why Geneva ( especially for such a short time)? Not that any of them are bad places, but there may be better options if you don’t have specific reasons.
Base budget in US $:
Airfare to get to Europe: ???
City to city transportation: $150 per week or $750 (probably won’t cover flights to/from
Greece)
Daily living: $75 to $100 per day, roughly $2,500 ($75 per day is pretty minmal for hostel dorms, eating from street venders and markets, subways and buses to get around).
Thanx for the reply. So, if you know Europe well then suggest me few places. This trip will be a celebration of ten years relationship gift for my wife. So, if you have any better idea, you are welcome & also anyone who wants to make this trip remarkable for us. Romantic places, hotels, dinning places etc.
The budget is for one so you need to double it and it’s pretty basic for romance. I would plan $100 each per day as a minimum for daily living to allow you to stay in private rooms in hostels or in inexpensive hotels. You’ll need $150 each per day if you want to eat in nice restaurants and stay in “tourist class” hotels.
You have chosen good cities. I would cut Athens unless you want to spend more time there. A 3 or 4 day cruise of Greek Islands would be a nice romantic addition and some of the cruises aren’t that expensive.
I would cut one day from Milan and one from Venice (romantic and wonderful, but very compact and very expensive so 2 days is adequate) and add them to Rome. I would fly or take an overnight train from Paris to Barcelona, then fly or overnight ferry to Italy. Take the train around Italy and then look for scenic day train or overnight train to Switzerland and/or Austria. Spend some time looking at areas other than the big cities and plan days trips to scenic places. Getting to Amsterdam will be long train trip, so look At adding a stop along the way.
thank you very much. i will get back to you for more details.
