I looked through the FAQs on a few sites, but couldn’t seem to find the specific answer to my question.

I’ve run into a few situations where the price for a 2nd class reservation and a 1st class reservation are the same price.

Am I able to buy a 1st class reservation even if I hold a 2nd Class Youth EURail select pass?

You can reserve the seat, but you won’t be able to sit in the seat that you paid to reserve.  The conductor will kick you out when he comes to check your ticket/railpass and reservation.

  Right, you need a 1st class ticket (or railpass) plus the 1st class reservation (if the specific train requires a reservation) to sit in 1st class.
