1) I bought a flexipass, so after having it activated in the first city, any day thereafter that I wish to travel, I just fill in the date and hop on the correct train, right? It is not necessary to go to ticket windows to get tickets or anything is it? i’ve read that some trains require reservations and supplementary costs… do u find this out when looking up the timetables online?

2) on swill’s post about the Eurail rules, it says that you can be fined if you don’t fill out the train trip in the Eurail cover. I thought this wasn’t mandatory, as it says on my pass that if i take the time to fill it out and send it back, they send me a free gift. I understand that it IS compulsory to fill in the travel date, but the route too?

thanks guys! just dont wanna be totally clueless in 2 weeks

I am leaving from Tampa with $6000 for 67 days
Amsterdam, Bruges, Paris, Caen, Barcelona, Nice, Cinque Terre, Florence, Rome, Athens, Corfu, Venice, Interlaken, Gimmelwald, Munich, Salzburg, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam

Right, unless you choose a train that requires a reservation.

I use the German national rail website for schedules anywhere in Europe. There’s an “R” on the schedule page or it will say “reservation compulsory” if you click on a specific train for the details. http://reiseauskunft… If you only see trains that require reservations, go back to the search page and mark “all without ICE” to see more trains or “only local transportation” to see those that don’t require reservation.

With a flexipass, you have to fill in the date before you board the train (European format — day month year so tomorrow, May 6 is 6/5 not 5/6) I’ve never had anybody check the route stuff on the cover. I think I filled that in after the trip was over and send it in for the “gift.” The gift isn’t much…. The big issue with the rules is that you have to fill in the date and you shouldn’t make any other marks on the pass.
