3 Month Europe trip

My friend and I are planning a 3 month trip through Europe, starting in Oslo, Norway, and ending in Rome or Florence. We plan to visit Norway, Denmark, Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Austria, and Italy. I need some estimates on how much it would cost, and some suggestions of good places to go. I also need some travel information. My friend doesn’t want to travel by train, because she thinks it will be too contrictive. She wants to drive the whole way, so that we can go wherever we want and stop whenever we want. Any help would be appreciated very much!

It’s difficult to ascertain the cost; Scandinavia has a reputation for being more expensive than other countries in western Europe.
I think a rail/drive combination would be preferable.
I agree with your friend. Although trains in europe are pretty efficient and go to almost every little town and city, you do have to travel according to their schedule.
If you rent a car make sure you do a leaseback instead of through a rental agency, that way you avoid paying the VAT (Value Added Tax) which is quite a lot. http://goeurope.abou…
Google “leaseback cars europe” for a list of comapnies. I personally have done a leaseback with Renault (you get a brand new car off the assembly line for way less than going through Hertz, Avis, etc.).
