I’m planing a four week trip to Europe in September 2012, it’ll be my first time to Europe. It seems like it might not be a lot of time to plan. I will be going with a friend, but I was wondering how ambitious or what’s a good amount of time to spend in an area, I’m interested in seeing a few museums, churches, landscape, experience culture and world landmarks for sure. I’m thinking:
London, England
Paris, France
Barcelona, Spain
Lucerne, Switzerland – or somewhere to see the Alps
Salzburg, Austria
Italy:Venice, Pisa, Rome,
Vatican, Vatican
Athens, Greece.

Right now these are general areas with a high likelihood of there being day trips out of the city or staying close by.

Is this too much to see in four weeks?
The flight would have to be open-jaw.

Any tips, advice or anything would be much appreciated. Thanks is advance.

I am leaving from Winnipeg with $4000 for 36 days
London, Bath, Salisbury, London, Paris, Barcelona, Marseilles, Nice, Monaco, Milan, Lucerne, Verona, Venice, Verona, Florence, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Vatican, Naples

Nothing wrong with open jaw, but still I wonder if maybe you should save Greece for another time? It’s kind of a long way to go for just a few days, and your budget is kind of tight.

Thanks Cil. I was wondering if the Greece days would be better spent somewhere else!

You might enjoy going down to the Amalfi coast from Rome. That could easily use up 3 days.
Or instead, spend 3 days in Tuscany (Siena, Cortona, Arezzo).
Both would be well worth it.
