85liter pack??
Tue, 08/17/2004 - 16:57
is an 85 liter pack a good size for a twelve day trip?
That’s quite a bit more than you need.
Yes, think smaller. But what are your total needs. An 85L pack is on the order of an Everest expedition. Most travel packs with reasonably good suspension systems are on the order of 55-65L. Lightweight Mountain/cross-country packs are still smaller.
If you are an avid hiker, and this trip is just an aside, think about your hiking needs first. If you are planning on backpacking a lot, then a mid-size travel pack with a good suspension is probably best.
That is pretty big. Unless you have a lot of camping gear to lug, I would go WAY smaller. Personally I’ve given up on the big backpacks all together whenever I’m not camping (or camping without a warm sleepingbag)and don’ tregret it at all. I can get everything I need in a schoolbag sized eastpack and just do a load of laundry after every week or so. It’s not a big deal at all and now I feel sorry for the turttles I see travelling like I used to. Big backpacks can be more trouble than they’re worth!
Thanks everyone for the advice I found another good pack that is a 60liter so I think it should work just fine.
