Advice for First Eurotrip
Sun, 05/13/2012 - 22:10
Hi Everyone,
This is our first time going to Europe and need some advice. For the first week we will be in Lyon/Frane. We’ve put a list of cities we want to visit after that. We are pretty flexible with the schedule and are open to some feedback. If you have any advice on places to see, and how to get to from each city that would be awesome.
Day 6 Lyon
Day 7 Milan
Day 8 Milan
Day 9 Florence
Day 10 Florence/Cinqueterre
Day 11 Rome
Day 12 Rome
Day 13 Campobasso
Day 14 Brindisi
Day 15 Brindisi
Day 16 Corfu
Day 17 Corfu
Day 18 Delphi
Day 19 Delphi
Day 20 Athens
Day 21 Athens
Day 22 Athens
Day 23 Madrid
Day 24 Madrid
Day 25 Segovia
Day 26 Barcelona
Day 27 Barcelona
Day 28 Barcelona
Day 29 Lyon
Day 30 Lyon
If you’re looking to gain some time, you could probably cut a day from Athens if you’re relatively efficient with your time.
Edinburgh, Madrid, London, Segovia, Santiago de Compostela, Toledo, Córdoba, Seville, Granada, Barcelona, Lyon, Nice, Paris, Bruges, Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Kutná Hora, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Füssen, Venice, Milan, Pisa, Florence, Siena, Rome, Pompei, Naples, Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Budapest, Hunedoara, Sighişoara, Bucharest, Sofia, Plovdiv, Istanbul, Selçuk
Porto, Guimarães, Lisbon, Tomar, Sintra, Evora, Lagos, Seville, Málaga, London
Doing a day trip from Florence to Cinque Terre is possible, but be aware of the time it takes to get there and back. You need to get to La Spezia and take the train from there (unless you have a car, either way it’s a few hours to/from.)
I would, if possible, take one/two days off Athens and add it to Corfu.
Again, you need to allow for travel time between destinations. As you may already know, a ferry from Brindisi to Corfu can take hours.

Perhaps WhichBudget can help with some Athens to Madrid.
Thanks for your feedback guys!
We took a closer look at our schedule and might think doing Italy, Greece and Spain may be a bit too ambitious. We might just focus on Greece/Italy. If there is anything else you would recommend to see that would be awesome. We’re creating a giant spreadsheet with idea’s.
Also, in terms of a pack size. Would 55L be too large? What would you recommend?

Size depends on what you can carry for an extended amount of time. I´m about 5´10 and I have a 75L. While it fits a week´s worth of clothes and all my other stuff comfortably, it´s wayyyy too large and heavy for walking for an extended amount of time. So if you´re comfortable, take it as long as it fits everything.

Thinking about taking an independent trip to Europe? That’s great because Independent travel is usually cheaper and more rewarding than signing up for a coach tour of Europe.
