An American girl going to Liverpool, England
Sun, 02/19/2006 - 01:28
Hello, I am an eighteen year old American looking into attending a music school in Liverpool, England sometime next year. What do I have to expect? I need advice. How do Europeans re-act to Americans? How would I adapt there? I can use as much advice about living there that you can give me. Saftey tips? I’m all hears (or in this case…eyes. lol.) I’m real serious about this and need much advice. Thanks. -Erica
P.S. About passports, transportation and everything else connected as well.

I couldnt help you much about liverpool besides telling you the town’s 2 major football(soccer) sides. However I can tell you that as far as passports go all you need to enter the UK as a tourist is a passport.Transportation should be quite good however you wont be able to fly into liverpool directly you would have to make a connection.

Thank you for your reply Howie. Love the name by the way
Unfortunately I wouldn’t be going as a tourist. A student, but thank you for confirming that I wouldn’t fly straight to liverpool, because I was getting a bit confused on that one. Thanks again. -Erica
Hi! I’m 22, and I’ve grown up in Liverpool. It’s a fantastic, vibrant city, with loads going on and lots to see and do. It’s European Capital of Culture for 2008, so there’s plenty to see with regards to art, music, museums and sports etc.
Regarding safety, some areas in Liverpool (like in most big cities), are not all that good. But as long as you don’t put yourself in any potentially dangerous situations (like walking around on your own at night), you should have no problems.
That being said, Liverpool in itself is really a great city. In general, people are extremely friendly and are willing to go out of their way to help someone. You won’t have any trouble with being American, there’s lots of different nationalities living here. It’s got a large student population, and is known for its excellent nightlife, bars and shops. Also, as it’s such a large city, it’s relatively easy to travel to other places in the UK (and there are also cheap flights into Europe from Liverpool airport).
Anyway, if you have anymore questions then just ask! And don’t worry, you’ll have a fantastic time (the only thing you might have a problem with is understanding our accent!)
