Amsterdam?
Sun, 03/04/2007 - 23:18
So, I get into Amsterdam on June 2nd at 3:30pm, I fly out at 1:30pm the next day to Accra, Ghana. I have a couple of questions. Where would be the most convenient place to stay to get to the airport hassle free the next morning? And what things do I just have to do in the 20ish hours I have in Amsterdam? Thanks in advance!!

It’s fast and easy to get to the airport from Amsterdam by train, so any centrally located hotel or hostel would work since your flight isn’t until mid day. There are a couple that are right at the train station.
There are also several hotels at the airport. The very pricy Sheraton is an easy, indoor walk from the baggage claim. The Hilton is a slightly longer walk, but still all under cover. There are other hotels on or near the airport grounds. There’s an Ibis (usually relatively cheap) that provides shuttle service to the airport. We stayed at a Golden Tulip at the airport as an easy place for several of us to meet up. We liked it so well, we stayed there rather than moving to an Amsterdam hotel. There was a free shuttle every 20 minutes to the airport where we could easily catch a train to Amsterdam. I don’t believe this hotel is a Golden Tulip now. It may be the Novetel?
Totally unrelated to your question… I’ve had Ghana on my “to go to” list for a couple years – a friend runs an NGO there I want to do some volunteering with. It is very expensive to get there. Do you mind me asking how much it is setting you back?
C
It is expensive. I got a ticket from Denver to London for $825 and then a ticket from London to Accra, via Amsterdam, for $1100. Which is still a lot less then the $2600 it would have been if I didn’t break the flight down.
I read somewhere that the Amsterdam airport was one of the best (if not the best) airports to sleep in… there’s a link in the sticky thread
It was a few years ago since I slept at Schipol airport (about 4 times in total), the good seats were on airside of the airport, but I locked myself in a very clean toilet cubicle (everytime you closed the door it sprayed freshner down on you, one floor down from departures and literally slept for about 4-5 hours each time, I was woken up by the cleaners around about 5am, once passed through Customs, I would then sleep for another hour or two on the brilliant seats
very clean toilet cubicle……….not possible…………..ew
would you do this again? good budget tip though!
London, Paris, Tours, Caen, La Rochelle, Annecy, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Rome
My son and friend are traveling to Europe from 5/8-5/21, flying in and out of London, Heathrow. They need my help to plan this trip since they are in college and can’t find time. They want to see London, Amsterdam,Paris, Germany, Rome, and Switzerland. How do I find out which order to travel and how to get from one place to another? Thanks for any help.
Jennifer, you must have been very sleep deprived! I can’t imagine myself sleeping in any toilet, even if it was clean. Good budget tip though for those who are able to do it.[
