Andorra?
Mon, 08/27/2007 - 05:07
I’d never heard of Andorra before until I read about it in a Europe guide book. It sounds like an interesting place, a small, relatively unknown country in the middle (more or less) of Europe. What is it like? Is it worth visiting?

I was there three years ago, small is the right word.
nothing much to see and it’s full of shops because of they don’t pay tax there or something. i was only at their capital town which was really small, but they do have beautiful mountains i did not get to do that.
but i think it’s a great place to hike, and at winter a cheap place to ski
but if you’re not a nature girl i would drop it.
have fun at your trip

Like Leann said, it’s small, and mainly a tax paradise (like all the microstates: Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein) but a nice place to ski. Further there isn’t that much to see you can’t see in surrounding Spain or France. Probably it’s just fun to show the people at home that you’ve been there which only a few people can say.
Last thing to point out that it hardly is in the center of Europe, the geographical center of europe is somewhere in Poland which is about 2000 km to the northeast…
Don’t visit Andorra just because it’s a “cute little country” you’d never heard of before. Like Joeri said, it’s a microstate (like San Marino, Monaco, Lichtenstein). It’s a beautiful country, but has the same scenery as the adjacent areas of France and Spain. It’s located right in the Pyrenees mountain range, which runs the entire length of the French-Spanish border. The country is best-known for skiing.
Andorra has historic association with France and Spain, and uses whatever currency its neighbors use (which is currently the Euro). The language in Andorra is Catalan, which is also spoken (to varying degrees) by roughly 18-25% of Spaniards in the adjacent Spanish region of Catalunya (as well as Valencia and Islas Baleares). Castillian (aka Spanish) and French are widely undertstood in Andorra, as well as

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like an interesting enough place to pass through, but as you said, I wouldn’t go there specially. Well, at least now I know where Andorra is. [
] Oh, and I reckon saying it’s in the middle of europe (even more or less) was a little far-fetched wasn’t it. [
