Anyone been to Naples lately?
Wed, 06/18/2008 - 23:00
In the last month I have seen that there is some trouble in Naples. The Garbage dump is full and they are burning trash in the streets at night. Has anyone been there in the past month or so? Is this happening in Sorrento and the rest of the Amalfi coast? We are due to be there in Sept and may change our plans if they are burning garbage in the streets of Sorrento.
Thanks

I would also like to know, it seems like it is getting very bad in Naples. We have planned to be in the area at the beginning of August.
As of 8 June
It sounds like the problem is confined to Naples. I don’t think they would allow this situation to overflow into the Amalfi coast. According to CNN, the city center of Naples is cleared, but the outskirts were as bad as ever in May.
I have been reading about trash in Naples for years.
Germany has been helping out, but they now expect Italy to take on this problem, which sounds like a complicated issue which may or may not involve the Mafia.
