I am looking at going from Vienna to Florence by train (I will be changing my current itinerary). I look on the Austria Train website and they have tickets for $29 dollars but this id for a seat and without reservation.
Is it hugely uncomfortable for a trip of that size to be in a seat rather then a sleeper compartment? Do I also have to pay extra for the reservation when i leave Austria.
Sorry not really sure how all this works.
Or if anyone has any other information on how i can get from Vienna to Florence please advise.

Thanks Smile

I am leaving from venice with $8000 for 88 days

This is 29 euros, not 29 US $ for ticket and reservation — you will not need to pay anything extra in Austria. However, it’s for a seat reservation, not a couchette or other berth. If you continue with the booking process you will be given the choice of other accommodations for higher prices — 59 euros for a couchette (6 berth compartment) and 69 euros for a T4 (4 berth) and even more expensive triple and double compartments.

I wouldn’t get much, if any, sleep in a reclining seat. So, if your overall trip is rushed, you have other overnight trains or flights within a few days of this trip, or this trip is at either the beginning or the end of your trip, I’d spring for at least a couchette and preferably a T4. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with your itinerary so it depends on your budget and how likely you are to get any sleep — it will be more comfortable trying to sleep on a plane. If saving 30 euros is a big thing for you then I’d risk losing a night’s sleep. So what if you don’t get much sleep? — you’ll recover in a day or so.
