Average cost
Sat, 04/09/2011 - 17:48
Hey everyone!
If anyone has gone on a long trip with a limited budget, how much on average did you spend on food? I know the conversion rate already works against us because of the US Dollar; however I am trying to plan a rough estimate of daily costs and since guidebooks seem to think were all rich, dont really know what the average is for someone on a limited budget.
Thanks for your help!
I am leaving from Orlando MCO with $6500 for 59 days
Dublin, Belfast, Cardiff, London, Salisbury, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ghent, Brussels, Cologne, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Munich, Füssen, Salzburg, Vienna, Bratislava, Kraków, Budapest, Zagreb, Dubrovnik

You can spend from $5 a day (Supermarkets) to $500 (nice restaurants) a day. It all depends on where you are going and what your eating.
Reykjavik, London, Lille, Berlin, Kraków, Lviv, Istanbul, Selçuk, Pamukkale, Kızkalesi, Göreme, Kars, Bat'umi, Akhalts'ikhe, Tbilisi, Telavi, Istanbul

Check the prices in a guidebook designed for budget travelers, like Let’s Go, Lonely Planet, or Rough Guide for a realistic idea of costs in low end cafes and pubs. I’d plan $15 per day for food on the low end — eating from markets and street vendors with the occasional pub or low end cafe and very limited wine or beer. Avoid any place that obviously caters to tourists (like near the Eiffel tower, Trevi fountain, San Marco). You can easily pay $20 for an ice cream and a cup of coffee (no refills) or $50 for lunch in a quaint looking sidewalk cafe in a tourist area.
Thanks OL, That helps alot. i know the currency exchange rate isnt much more that 60 cents added to every dollar spent, but i didnt know how realistic the $20 budget from rough guide book was. Thanks for the tips!
