I’m a frequent mountain backpacker, so we have a couple of good packs laying around the house. However, the only one that isn’t too obscenely big is an external frame (and no daypack), and I have heard that can be kind of annoying.
I found this pack online, and it looks PERFECT for my 7 week trip.

The detatchable daypack is a plus, and the fact the straps can fold back into the pack and it can be used like a duffel looks very handy. But, I was thinking that 8lbs is kind of heavy for a pack… so I’m just looking for some input.
Also, as a side-note… I have been contemplating buying a filtering water bottle. That way I can get clean water without having to buy it all the time. Would it be worth the $40?
