Backpack- Safe to leave in Hostels

I imagine this question has been asked before but I’m just wondering if its safe to leave your Backpack in the Hostel Room. I’ve stayed in a Hostel in Barcelona and left my pack in a locker for a couple of hours but I have to admit, I was a little worried. Are those lockers safe? Has anyone every heard of someone breaking into them?
Packs left in hostels are more or less safe. Who really wants all your dirty clothes anyway? Just be careful not to leave your camera/money/passport hanging around.
I’ve left my pack in dozens of hostels without any problems. I keep the zippers locked. If you don’t feel safe at a place then you shouldn’t stay there. People can steal your stuff just as easily while you’re sleeping if they are determined to do so.
i’ve never had a problem leaving my pack in the hostel while exploring a new city…just don’t leave your wallet, mp3 player, camera, etc… out on top of your pack while you’re out on the town… if you do then expect problems….just use common sense and you will be okay.
