Backpack for small female
Mon, 03/01/2010 - 11:11
Hi everyone,
I have been looking around online at backpacks for my 7 week trip this summer. I am looking predominantly for a pack that I can carry on to planes, that is panel loading, and that does not have a detachable daypack. have grown attached to the Osprey Porter 46 online since it fits these criteria, but I am a little concerned that since it comes in just one size it will be too large for my small frame. The Porter is here:
Does anyone have any familiarity with this pack, or know of any other packs that might fit my criteria?
I had tried on the Osprey Waypoint 65 in a women’s small at a store and it felt really great with weight in it, but I think the pack is just too large for what I am looking for. However, it seems like there is a lack of women’s sizes in smaller packs, particularly those that are panel loading.
Any help is appreciated!
I am leaving from New York City with $6000 for 46 days

It seems from the downloadable spec sheet that is the Porter 46 is carry-on size (22×14×9in). First, congrats on picking out a bag that you don’t have to check! Second, although this bag doesn’t come in women’s/men’s sizes, I think you’ll do alright in it because it’s that small overall anyway. The only other thing I can suggest is to look and see if a website like ebags.com, which allows free returns, carries the bag so that you can return it after you buy if you see it doesn’t fit your specs.
FYI, I have a bag this size (different company) and I love it. And mine, anyway, fits alot more stuff than you would think would fit in a carry-on size bag.

For a gender specific pack, you might want to take a look at the Osprey Aura 35. It is also carryon size. This one happens to be a panel loader even though the larger packs in the series are top loaders. I’m buying one for my wife for our 4 week trip this spring.
