The Bahamas
Fri, 02/04/2005 - 18:20
So the husband of the family my wife used to work for is offering to pay our way for three nights at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, airfare included, as a surprise for his wife’s 60th birthday. Has anyone stayed there, or anywhere else on New Providence island? I have a feeling we will be obligated to spend most of our time with them, so I’m thinking of extending our trip by a night or two. Any good hotel suggestions? I don’t want to pay $300-$400 or more like at Atlantis, so something cheaper would be great. Also, suggestions for good casual pubs, bars and restaraunts would be appreciated.
Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Bueller?
Well, in the early ’90’s carnival’s chyrstal palace at Cable Beach (edge of Nassau) was really nice and really cheap.
Thanks. Anyone else?
Heck, if it’s free, then GO!
Was in Nassau a couple of times but it has been ages. Beer is really expensive. When in Rome….you have to drink rum if you want to get drunk on a budget.
Well, Atlantis is on Paradise Island, which is connected to Nassau by a bridge (or you can take a little boat). If you want something cheaper, you need to stay in central Nassau (cable beach is more resorty) but I am warning you that it is still hella expensive for what you get (even if you shop at the grocery store).
I have loads of Family in Nassau so I stay there all the time, If you are going to stay longer than I would go to Nassau inn on Cable beach. You can get some great deals there. Since you are staying on New Providence island make sure you get a chance to take the boat trip to blue lagoon island. It is not expensive and well worth it! You travel to a beautiful island where u can participate in loads of water sports or just relax on one of the hammocks, You are treated to traditional Bahamian food and can even swim with the doliphins. Have fun and enjoy yourself! Some great sights to see in Nassau are Bay street, The straw market, Cable beach and Blue lagoon island.
