Baltic Coast in Sept...
Sat, 01/20/2007 - 03:47
I’m planning to travel to Europe this Sept for three weeks, I’ll be landing London first and planning to fly to eastern Europe and travel from east to west. In eastern Europe I’m planning to visit some countries in the Baltic Coast (Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia). Anyone been there before? This is my first time to Europe and I don’t speak any European langage… well beside English.
so I’ll need all the advices I can get

The Baltics have been on my list for a while now. My last two trips brought me to poland, but I didn’t have sufficient time to get up there and explore them the way I’d like to. Maybe I’ll get there in October this year.
You should be able to get by on english in the capitols. Each capitol has a few hostels. Bus travel is just as popular as train. The only route that might be problematic is from Lithuania to Poland. Its not a frequent route, and a lot of the trains pass into the corner of Belarus, requiring a transit visa.
been to the baltics.its worth a visit.especially tallinn.people speak english here.a brill hostel is www.tallinnbackpackers.com if u want to party.im volunteering here, its too easy to get stuck here.not the first time its happened to me.transport up here is cheap enough and regular between the 3 cities, vilnius, riga and tallinn.if u have any questions just ask
So, far I’ve only been to Lithuania. Was there last April and spent 5 nights in Vilnius, was only going to stay 3 nights but liked it too much, and one night in Kaunas. I stayed at Vilnius backpackers which I really liked. Vilnius has a great old town to just wander around in. I think it’s the largest old town of the three capitals. Many churches. You can do day trips to trakai and the soviet statue park. You must go to the KGB museum. It’s pretty powerful. I had no problem with getting around with just English. Buses are more common than the train is. I didn’t make it to the coast but, I heard it’s really beautiful. I’m headed to Riga and Tallinn in March so, I’ll be able to comment on those places soon. Have Fun.
Thank you so much for everyone’s replies…. I feel a lot better now going there… Can’t wait
