Playhead,

On 26 January, you posted that you’ll be applying for your visa on 24 January. Unless you have a time machine, I don’t see how this is possible.

I don’t think there is a set amount of how much you should have saved up…as long as it looks like you have enough to support yourself during your entire stay.

You may find this thread useful:

And, you probably know what you’re doing, but just to make sure: citizens of some countries (including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Japan) do not need a visa if they will be staying in the Schengen area less than 90 days. What country are you a national of?

Playhead,

Ok, yes you need a Schangen visa, and I found this visa requirement on an Italian consular website:

Quote:
Proof of financial means in the form of a recent (no older than 1 month) bank statement (original + 1 photocopy) or a notarized bank letter on bank’s letterhead (original + 1 photocopy) attesting adequate financial means. The amount of funds must be specified (at least $1,000 per month are required).

That’s 1000 USD per month.

source: Italy’s Chicago Consulate

Since your primary destination is Italy, it’s advised you get your Schegen visa from an Italian consulate.
