Barcelona, Ibiza and Amsterdam in July 2012
Sat, 12/10/2011 - 01:44
We would like to visit Barcelona, Ibiza and Amsterdam for 7-10 days in July 2012. What would be the best/cheapest way to travel from the US and back.
Would it be cheaper to book a round trip flight to Barcelona and use a low cost airline to Ibiza, and Amsterdam and then back to Barcelona? Or do a one way from the States to Barcelona and a one way from Amsterdam back, and use a low cost airline to Ibiza and Amsterdam?
Any suggestions to accomplish this would be appreciated.
I am leaving from Phoenix, AZ with $2500 for 9 days

There’s no hard and fast rule about this. Round trips are often cheaper, but sometimes multi-city tickets are cheaper, and even if a round trip ticket is cheaper it may only be marginally cheaper, especially if you factor in the cost, time and hassle of having to backtrack to the city you first flew to. I would buy a PHX-BCN-AMS-PHX ticket unless a PHX-BCN or PHX-AMS ticket is at least a couple hundred dollars cheaper. There are cheap flights from Barcelona all three European cities.
Thanks for the reply.
That makes sense and that’s reflected in the prices i’ve been seeing as well. It also appears that we’re not going to find anything “cheap” in July or Aug.
When we get some solid dates and itinerary planned, i’m sure i’ll be back with more questions. Otherwise, if you have any other tips/ideas off the top of your head, i’m all ears. Thanks!

When you have your dates narrowed down, post this on our “cheap flights” forum where Don and the other air fare gurus are more likely to see it. I agree with Augustin25 that an open jaw ticket is the best bet for this short trip unless a roundtrip to one of the cities is considerably cheaper.
