Barcelona to Nice to Florence
Mon, 06/17/2013 - 22:26
I will be going on a eurotrip and have been looking at train routes to get from Barcelona to Nice and Nice to Florence. I chose Nice and Florence because they seemed like good cities to visit to ultimately eventually make our way to Budapest. We don’t want to take planes and prefer sleeper trains but seems like many transfers needed to get from barcelona-nice and nice to florence with no sleeper direct night trains. I initially wanted to just go barcelona to florence but because they discontinued the night train from barcelona to milan figured would have to stop somewhere along the way to not spend too much time on the train. Anyone have any suggestions?
I am leaving from MONTREAL with $2250 for 22 days

I would serious look at flying. It may be significantly cheaper than taking the train or ferry. Use www.whichbudget.com to see which low fare airlines fly which routes and see our “cheap flights” forum for more links, tips and help.
Day train at 9 hours is the “best” train option from Barcelona to Nice. Using Marseilles as your base for Southern France cuts the time to 7:00 hour and a day train is still the best option.
Grimaldi ferry from Barcelona to Genoa is another option. There are ferries 6 days a week and the crossing is 19 hours. You can also ferry to Cittivechia, fairly near Rome.
If you really want to do overnight trains, your best bet is probably Barcelona to Paris (usually pretty pricey, even if you have a railpass) and Paris to Florence, Rome or Milan.
I would definitely fly BCN-NCE. Vueling has a flight on July 26 that leaves just before 9:00 and lands just after 10:00 for $74. Pretty good. Your train options will be more expensive and take up more time.
thx for the tips i guess ill look into flying or skipping nice and heading to paris
