I am taking my 14 year old daughter on an Central/Eastern European adventure this summer. I am looking forward to many bonding, parent/teen-coming-of-age moments and am wondering how age restrictions in pubs/bars may interfere (I am talking about beer halls and friendly, downstairs pubs not hard liquor, discos or dance clubs).
Will minors be tolerated, accepted or preyed upon in Poland (Krakow, Zakopane), Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy?

a relatively pretty girl will always have a strong chance of being preyed upon in some fashion if there are guys w/ alcohol around….if you’re w/ her..things should be fine. How tolerated it will be (in places w/ an older drinking age) is dependent on what kind of 14 she is…if she is 14 but looks older…no problem…if she is 14 but looks 11, then maybe there’ll be issue…and if I remember in Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, and Slovakia – There was no minimum drinking age….in Italy it’s 16…

no minium drinking age in poland?! no!

I’m from poland! it’s depends, if it is not a drinking den, bartender just asks about her age and check the ID
18 proofed by ID is required to order a drink

in poland has been an action not to selling alcohol to teenagers in media and the bars which broke this rule can be shuts down

the same is in Hungary(I was there and once i have problem with buying a drink, i’m 19)

but Marla, I don’t belive that you could let your doughter to go ALONE to pubs/clubs

so parents buy to their childern beer?
it’s ridiculous

(of course pathological families can live everywhere, but is not a norm to make a teenager drunk!)

Yikes!
It seems I didn’t explain myself very well. I DO NOT intend to send my daughter out into the night and she WILL NOT be drinking alcohol!
I was simply wondering if any drinking establishments(Elephant and Castle, corner pub type places) would allow a minor to enter with a parent. I like to have a beer or two and listen to live music in the evenings. In Canada a teen would not be allowed in the door because of liquor laws. I had hoped that a more relaxed attitude might prevail in Europe.
Thank you for your responses.
PS. I’m not creepy, I promise.

Hey.
I’ve just went back from Krakow 2 days ago.
They mostly don’t mind if you take your child with you to a cosy bar, lounge etc. They are very friendly if you obey their rules and respect them. So ask the bartender kindly if it can be possible to take a seat with your child before you order a drink and settle down.

Check fx. various known jazz-bars in Krakow…
Personally, I recommend "Harris Jazz-bar" at the Market Square…

Have fun!

Thank you Willi, that is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
