berlin-krakow-munich cost???
Wed, 04/21/2010 - 23:14
Hello,
since going to Poland will not be able to count toward my rail pass, I have a question about cost.
I am on raileurope site to see how much it will cost to get from Berlin to Krakow and then Krakow to Munich.
From Krakow to Munich is says it’s more than $250! I guess I was not expecting prices to be this high. I just plugged in random dates (I am only going next year) but wanted to see how much to budget. Looks like I will have to take Krakow out of my itinerary I think. Do you think a flight would be better then? At the moment I only can have 2 days in Krakow so it does not seem worth it to spend that money….But incase I am able to extend it, I would like to know the approx cost. Any links would be great, I am still new to the rail sites thanks!
I am leaving from Canada with $5000 for 38 days
Amsterdam, Hanover, Berlin, Munich, Zürich, Lucerne, Rome, Florence, Paris, Bruges, Lille, London
Amsterdam, Hanover, Berlin, Munich, Zürich, Lucerne, Rome, Florence, Paris, Bruges, Lille, London
Ok I am wondering If I found the answer:
When I make up my trip on this site, it tells me the best rail pass would be
Eurail 5 Country Benelux/France/Germany/Italy/Switzerland 6 Day 2nd Class Youth Select pass
So then, if I buy the 5 days within 2 months Germany Poland Pass, it is $309. We are only there 2 days, but it still seems cheaper than buying point to point for 2 days??
We would need a train for Berlin-Krakow
Also will need a train to Katowice to visit Aushwitz.
Finally, will need a train to Salzburg or Munich.
So do you think getting the 5 country select pass AND the poland-germany would be the best option?
Sorry for such a long question. Even 300 is pricey, so I am thinking to make it worth it, we might as well stay in Poland for 4 days at least! Might as well if we are already going out of the way…

I would just buy point to point tickets for your trips in Poland. It should be significantly cheaper than buying a pass for two trips. It looks like railsaver is suggesting buying a ticket for the entire trips (Berlin-Krakow and Krakow-Salzburg) rather than using the rail pass for the portions in Germany and Austria and just buying tickets from the German border to Krakow and from Krakow to the Austrian border. Try pricing the tickets on the individual national rail company websites:
http://reiseauskunft… for Germany, http://www.pkp.pl/ for Poland and http://www.oebb.at/e… for Austria
