The best cityes in Bevaria,Saxony and Berlin
Thu, 11/18/2004 - 11:28
Hello every one! Try to make my trip in Germany in Decemb. I have been only in Munich, Renegsberg, Nurberg and Augsburg. That is all! And have never been at another parts of Germany like Saxony and Berlin!
So, maybe u can advices me more intersr cityes on that part of Germany?
thank you.
Galina
Berlin is a great city. You could easily spend a week or more there. There are loads of great museums, parks (it’s the greenest city in Europe), historic sights, etc. It’s also a wonderful place for nightlife and shopping (check out the flea-markets and second hand stores). Just tell us what you like to see/do when you travel, and I’m sure a lot of people will have great suggestions.
You could also go to Potsdam, a smaller city just outside of Berlin.
In Saxony, I really like Leipzig. The old town is real pretty, there’s a great atmosphere, and the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (battle of nations memorial) is a cool and unusual sight, with great views from the top.
Berlin: Berlin and adjacent Potsdam (which is however the capital of the state Brandenburg).
Saxony: Dresden, Leipzig
general – a map which shows you the interesting cities and towns

Well, i LOVE anything!I am young and for me anything ear COOL and great! But, i would like to open for my self REAL life of cityes! I mean, smth realy Germany! To visit some skwots,to drink to eat traditional meals…and more
U know, when i have been in Paris, one of my friend suggestions: "oh, girl, if u want to feel Paris, u should go to Monmartre, early morning (5-6a.m.)and u could seen like Paris will wake up. People (owns of small shops, kiosks)will go out on street and clien windows, open their kiosks and ets…"
Or for exsample, to visit special museum, witch usualy no one turist don’t visit, but it is real, COOL place…
I like young/hippys party on streets…
so i love anything cool and great! I like to enjoyng and to live my life!
Thank you,
Galina
I really like the Friedrichshain area of Berlin. There’s lots of squats, and good yet affordable places to eat (though it’s more foreign food than German food). One thing I would really recommend you go to there is the flea market on Boxhagener Platz on sunday morning, even if you don’t want to buy anything.
My favourite park (it’s not the most beautiful one, but very good for people-watching) is Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg, yet very few guidebooks mention it, so that’s a good place to see the "real Berlin". I also like Bergmannstrasse and the surrounding area in Kreuzberg.
You should also check out Tacheles in Mitte, it’s a cool cultural centre in a building that was half destroyed in WWII.

Thank you a lot! An u know, also i like to go on roof of buildings! In St-Petersburg, I wth my friends and my europe friends every time go to roof of higth, old buildings. I like to viow from roof!
do u know any that kind of plaves?
Thanks!
I recommend a trip to Dresden, it has a lot of history and neat old architecture. and with the river Elbe, a very romantic feel! And near Dresden is the Porzellan Manufactur in Meissen…nice tour. Not far from Dresden is the Erzgegirge, an area near the Czech Republic where wood carvings is popular and lots of Christmas gifts made out of wood.
Berlin is also wonderful and has a lot to offer! If you like high buildings, I recommend the Fernsehturm(TV tower) in Berlin with its restaurant on top! Same with Stuttgart…it has a Fernsehturm with Restaurant…very nice. I like the one in Berlin, especially, but mainly because it has a lot of history to it! Stay along the Rhine River in a small town like Oberwesel or Bacharach and take a Rhine River cruise. A very wonderful little German town is Bamberg!! Very Charming! You can’t go wrong in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the south of Bavaria….you can go to the top of the highest moountain in Germany called the Zugspitze and it has a great view on top of the Alps!! Good Luck!

Hi and thanks for interest reply!
2 Gaechka…..You’e welcome! I was in Russia this summer for the first time and it was fabulous! Of course, I saw St.Pete and Moscow….the top highlite for me was the Summer Palace in Peterhof! Being on Red Square was a dream come true! I hope to make it again in ’06!
I was going to add a couple of suggestions or points of interest: treat yourself to a few hours in a thermal bath in Baden Baden…these places are just awesome! Some old medieval towns like Quedlingberg, Hameln, Weimar, and Eisenach are nice. The Wartburg Castle in Eisenach is neat! Heidelberg is a charming city, too! Good Luck!

You can get great views from the roof of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig. It’s quite a climb, but it’s really worth it. You get to see almost the entire city, and the surrounding area, including the crematorium of the nearby Südfriedhof (cemetery) which looks like a castle.
(I was in Russia for the first time this summer too btw, but unfortunately I didn’t make it to St. Petersburg)
Oah…guys Thanks a lot!
AR" it’s situates in building of old crematorium (time of the Great Patriotic war)
2seraphim:

2 Gaechka: We also have this jump in our Lake Michigan, and the people are called "
olar Bears" and anyone can join the Polar Bear Club if they jump in the lake on New Year’s Day! Have fun, you’ll feel like a polar bear, but have a towel near by!

Thanks Gaechka, I was really sorry I couldn’t go to St. Petersburg last summer, and I think it would be great to get some insider tips whenever I do make it there! If only the visa wasn’t such a pain in the ass … but it must be the same for you coming to the EU! If you ever come to Antwerp, Belgium, feel free to e-mail me too, btw.
Hey, Of cause welcome!!! No problem!U can check that site for visa http://www.ryh.ru/vi…
One of my guests from USA has written to me:
"You should probably refer all your foreign friends to that place to get their invitations! They charge $35 for an invitation, but they can accept foreign credit cards and they can directly fax the invitation internationally. And they can register it, too!
It can save a lot of time and money for people."
Yea, for Russ people have to show invitation in consulate, to get visa. But it’s more easy to get Finland VISA (without invitation). But, i was arested last time in FINLAND by police (hike-hike on autobane+ has lated my visa for 1 day). Now i can’t get Finland visa during minimum 6 months. That’s way i try to geg visa ia Germany
Hey, I have been in Antwerp!!! in May 2004. Ohh..i love Gelgium so much! U can check my profile on www.couchsurfing.com my nick:GAECHKA and look pics from last trip in Belgium!
