Sat, 02/25/2012 - 17:07
Hey guys I need some advice. Taking a month long trip in April and I already have everything set from Dublin to London to Berlin to Prague but I am trying to figure out the best route and travel (by rail or plane) from Prague to Florence and from Florence to Paris.
and if from Florence to Paris if I get the rail, should I wait until I am in Florence to buy an overnight train ticket?
any help is super appreciate
Thanks!
Mimi
I am leaving from nyc with $6000 for 29 days

Prague – Florence: Best option by train would be afternoon train (leaving at 14:42) to Vienna meidling and overnight train to Florence, arriving at 6:15. It APPEARS to be set up so you just cross the platform for your 7 minute connection in Vienna. While this certainly works, It’s a total of about 15 hours of train time. I think a cheap flight is probably a better option.
Florence to Paris: best option by train is late evening train to Milan (leaving at 20:55) and then overnight train to Paris. Since the Milan train station is a huge underground city in itself, the 58 minute connection is probably about the right. You’d arrive in Paris at 8:38 for a total train time of about 11 hours. This seems a little more comfortable than Prague to Florence, but I’d still look for a cheap flight.
Buying the train tickets after you get to Europe is probably the best option. You should be able to buy them at any major train station, not just the station you’re departing from. Buying from an on-line travel agency, like the ones that sell railpasses, will nearly double the price, so avoid that. You might be able to buy some of the tickets from the individual national rail company websites at standard pricing or even find great on-line specials. However, trenitalia, the Italian national rail company, does not accept North American issued credit cards on it’s website and unless you can print an e-ticket for the specific train you want (the option isn’t available on all routes) buying it from SNCF, the French rail website, could leave you in Florence with your ticket waiting for you in Paris. Buying from the individual national rail company websites can yield significant savings, so check both the departure and arrival country websites for special fares on the dates you want to travel — usually 2 months in advance. The links to the websites are in a sticky at the top of this forum and under “transportation” on the “travel tips” tab. Make sure you can print a ticket, go paperless or will be able to collect your ticket at your departure station before you buy as you probably cannot get a ticket mailed to you from these sites.
Your cheapest options for both flights will be to fly into/out of Pisa, saving at least $100 over Florence on each flight. Check http://www.skyscanne…
how would i get from Pisa to Florence?
