Best way to get from ROME to GREECE?

Hey,
Can anyone please help me. I will be travelling to LDN next week and would like to travel to Rome (take a flight from LDN) and then somehow get to Athens. Does anyone know the best way to get to Athens from Italy? I have not yet booked my flight to Italy so I can depart from any city in Italy to Greece. Do you think its best to fly from Italy to Greece or take a train/boat? Rough time frame is end of June (around Jun 23rd)

Ferry takes overnight, we did this once (Venice to Corfu) and it was fine.  We flew back (Athens to Rome), which also was fine. You could check out flight passes on Europebyair.com, too, but that might not work for you.
Flying to Crete then island-hopping your way back to Athens would be a nice trip.
