BestFares.com
Thu, 01/25/2007 - 17:58
First off, I am looking to travel to Spain and Morocco in the month of July, departing either from anywhere in the Midwest or NYC.
I am wondering if anyone has used bestfares.com to find flights and if it is worth the $60 annual fee, especially if I only expect to use it for one international flight? Are there a lot of flights to choose from, or is it hit and miss in terms of finding something to fit your schedule at a discount?
And if anyone is currently a member and can look up flights, could you list a couple sample fares from teh states to Madrid or Barcelona leaving the first week of July and coming back 14-20 days later? I am hoping to get something in the low $700, any higher than that defeats the purpose of paying $60 for the membership.
Ohh, and one other question, it states that fares include the gas tax of $150 each way, but not other taxes. Is there an amount I can approximate that at.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide
Matt

I’m not a BestFares member (and from everything I’ve read, they don’t provide good value, but more like bait and switch), but you can use ITASoftware.com for free, and often come up with great deals. For example, ITASoftware.com suggests you use www.airpluscomet.com to get a fare, including all taxes, that’s just above $750 for JFK-MAD.
I really don’t think their membership fee is worth it. If you’re willing to do some research you can find the fares that they offer and often beat them. Watch this forum for posts about sales people see, and also consider flying into other cities and then hopping a cheap flight to Spain.
The additional taxes on USA-Spain roundtrip will add about $90 in addition to any fuel surcharges. Bestfares are very good at highlighting sale fares in a way that makes you think it is an “exclusive” member-only fare, but when you dig a little, you find that you could purchase direct from the airline and save yourself the $60 annual membership fees. Also, I have read consistent reports over the past 5-6 years of phoning B’fares and being put on hold for hours, only to be told in the end that the fare is no longer available.
IT;CHI;MKE;MSP;MEM;DFW to MAD;LIS;BCN;OPO;AGP.
The cities that they advertise together are often a clue as to which airline is having a sale. “14 US cities to Germany” is likely Lufthansa, for example.
I see that $754 fare from New York to Madrid that Traveler mentioned. Looks like Fridays in July. Next-cheapest about $200 more, and from midwest cities only, looks like $1009 for Chicago-BCN, $1012 Chicago-Madrid. I used ITA and checked from MCI;STL;IND;BNA
Easyjet fly to Morocco from Madrid. A simple roundtrip from USA to Madrid, then flight hops to/from Morocco with a low-fare airline might be cheaper overall. www.easyjet.com www.ryanair.com also with a Spain-Morocco route.
Search also some consolidators from your nearest airports: www.flights.com www.economytravel.co… www.justfares.com www.airdeals.com www.allcheapfares.co… www.autoeurope.com
It can be cheaper… i suggest you look at http://www.FlyLowBud…
I hope it will help you!
