This June I’ll be in Germany and I’d really like to do some hiking in the Black Forest. Any suggestions on great towns to base myself in?

EDIT: Anywho, I hear  Freiburg is a nice town on the edge of the Schwarzwald, but I’ve never been there myself.

Freiburg is indeed a nice town, despite a previous problem with witches. It’s regarded as the ‘capital’ of the Black Forest. The youth hostel is quite a distance from the centre. There’s a music festival there in June, and also a wine market.
