Will,

Just a couple of comments.

1.) I did book a stay through Eurotrip and I wanted to leave a review, but I can’t seem to find anywhere to do that. Is it possible on Eurotrip?
2.) I know that there is no separate or specified booking fee through Eurotrip, but we did find at one hotel, that the price charged by eurotrip was more than what the hotel itself charged. I only found it out accidentally because I had to shift our dates slightly and when I arrived I asked about our deposit but they wouldn’t apply it to the new rates. After a bit of discussion I found out that the amount of the deposit was exactly the difference between what eurotrip charged and what the hotel charged. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got no issue with being charged a fee to book through Eurotrip, but it seems like it’s hidden rather than non-existent.

We currently do not have the ability to submit reviews right now.

Can you please let me know what hotel it was that was cheaper than on eurotrip? We are actually getting our listings through a company who ‘claim’ to have the lowest price also tell us that they offer a guarantee, so I may have some recourse if I know the details. (Maybe send me your booking details in a Private Message and can reference the specific booking when talking to them.)

I will look into this. That does seem like one hell of a coincidence that the deposit is the same as the price difference, so I will try to figure out if the company we are using has a markup of some kind.

Thanks for letting me know.

Will

I don’t know why, but for some reason I cannot find the area to go to see the hostel I booked for next month in Geneva. I know I booked it and I’ve seen the booking somewhere before, but I’ve been searching around now for 20 minutes and cannot figure out for the life of me where to click to see the booking. It’s probably obvious but could you help please? Thanks?

I was looking for a hostel for two nights in Reykjavik using Eurotrip’s booking tool , and the two I was deciding between were Hotel Floki and Guesthouse Von.

Guesthouse Von:
31.53USD/night – sleeping bag accommodation, no breakfast = 63.06USD for two nights;
2km from bus terminal (important as I have an early morning flight when leaving the city)

Hotel Floki:
41.78USD/night – 4 bed dorm, no breakfast = 83.56USD for two nights;
Across the road from bus terminal

I’m on a tight budget, so I was leaning towards GV, but I didn’t want to walk 2km at 4am to the bus stop. Randomly, I had opened Booking.com before searching Eurotrip.com, but I hadn’t used it. I’m glad I kept it open because their results for Hotel Floki were quite different from Eurotrip’s.
For the same two nights in a 4-bed dorm, USD78.32 was listed but crossed out, and USD53.84 was printed beside it. Further investigation revealed that breakfast was included in the price. Additionally, no deposit was required, and the reservation can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours prior to the reserved date.

Since Eurotrip.com claims to offer the best prices while not charging a booking fee, I wanted to compare with hostelworld.com, an agent which is known for charging a booking fee.
Hostelworld.com offers the 4-bed dorm at USD40.76/night plus a USD2.00 service charge for a total of USD83.51 for two nights…5 cents cheaper than Eurotrip.com which claims to not have a booking fee.

As a concerned customer, I believe the claim that Eurotrip has the best prices and doesn’t charge a booking fee to be dishonest and that it provides users with a false sense of security when booking hostels. I would appreciate that this claim include an addendum stating that users should still shop around for better prices as Eurotrip doesn’t always offer the best.

Thank you.

I am looking to book a hostel in London, and I am confused by the pricing. This might just be a complete oversight on my part, but when I look at the list of hostels by price they list one price and then to book the price is a completely different price? Is there something I am missing? I realizes prices will be a bit higher on the weekend, but during the week too?

For instance, The Walrus Waterloo is priced at $11.51 but to go and book the price jumps to $30.69. Why the difference?

@catie123, $11.51 is probably the cheapest bed in the biggest room with no extras on a low-demand time of year. The price you are getting could be higher because you’re choosing a smaller room (less beds in room usually = higher per bed price), or during a higher-demand time of year. What dates are you looking at?

Don,
I will be in London on September 21 and need a place for 6 nights. I had originally wanted to stay at The Walrus Waterloo because of the price, rating, and area. But for $30 a night it’s a little too much I for me I think! It also only gave that one price for the entire listing. So could it be that every other room is unavailable?

I was also looking at the Smart Hyde Park Inn and the All Star Hostel (this one, however, doesn’t appear to show available dates). Essentially, all I am really looking for is a safe area and a clean bed. I can work around anything else. The cheaper the better, but I think that’s a given.

@catie, checking those dates just now looks like the only availability they have is in the 6 bedded rooms, which cost more per bed than the cheaper 16 bedded rooms. Considering they’re the highest rated currently showing available, breakfast included, and near attractions you might get to on foot, look at the total costs. Additional transportation and meals can add up quickly in (very dear) London. So you might find a lower per bed cost available somewhere else, but if bed linen fees are high, no breakie included, and/or further out with more transport costs… might not be worth it.

Don
That’s a really good point to keep in mind. I think I might look a little bit more before deciding on a place. Thank you for the help!

I have one question: my friend and I were trying to book an hostel in Venice at “A Venice Fish” for 2 nights, but doing by eurotrip it only shows the female dorm. But, in another website, have the mixed dorm option. Why it doesn´t appear here?

Here’s the deal:

There are two major hostel booking companies: Hostelworld and Hostelbookers. Almost all websites that book hostels use one of these two companies. _(We happen to use Hostelbookers because we found it to be cheaper than hostelworld and offer better customer service) _ The hostels set aside a certain number of beds for each company to sell. Most of the time they are the same, but sometimes the hostels set aside different beds — that’s why you can see a discrepancy. It can happen the other way around, too.

so there ya go.

Hope that helps!
