Booking hostels in advance this summer
Tue, 06/01/2010 - 09:20
OK I know this questions has been discussed a few times before but I leave for my trip in less than a month and I’m trying to figure out which hostels to book and when. I am planning on booking my hostel in Amsterdam (where I fly into) and Florence (where I meet up with my cousin on June 22nd) as these dates are set. I am wondering if I should try and book more hostels in advance. I really don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to find a hostel and many of our stops are in major cities (Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Prague etc.) so I’m worried hostels are going to full. Should I be able to reserve hostels when I get to Europe(so 3 or 4 days in advance for each stop) or should I try and book them now? I would rather not be locked into a set schedule but at the same time I don’t want to spend tons of time trying to find a hostel when I arrive. I know I am traveling during the busy season so what does everyone think?
I am leaving from Boston with $4000 for 36 days

If you are there in July and/or August I would definitely book. June maybe, but it won’t be as crowded as the other 2 months. Also if it’s a city known for crappy hostels and only having 1 or 2 good ones (like Paris and Venice) I’d book those in advance as well.
