Boston to New York
Fri, 09/29/2006 - 00:59
What do you think is the best way to go from Boston to New York?
So far, my options are Greyhound and luckystar.com.. But I’d prefer a train… But Amtrak is too expensive… Is there another train I can take that’s good in terms of price, travel time, reliability?
Thanks.
There are many buses going from Chinatown back and forth to Boston for 15$.
JetBlue also charges I believe somewhere between 25$ on their 6:30 am flight and as the day progresses, it increases.
Acela express is quite nice but 175 might be more expensive.

The Chinatown bus is your best bet. Sure, you may not have your own seatbelt, sure the upholstery might smell like General Tso’s Chicken, and sure the legality of it all is a bit questionable, but it gets you to NYC for under $20 and right to some of the best food in town. You can’t beat that.

Peter Pan bus service used to operate pretty frequently between Boston and NYC: inexpensive, reasonably comfortable and pretty fast, especially if you get a limited stop service.
Sorry, as far as trains go, Amtrak is the only passenger train line in town. Maybe that’s why they are so expensive: No Competition!
I would assume Amtrack to be much cheaper than the Acela express, also probably operated by Amtrack.
There are 2 different options: express and Local,
Cannot seem to remember the prices but varies considerably.

The cinatown bus sounds like the most interesting option.
