I’m heading off on my own again, heading to Rio around the end of March and as a 24 year old male, I usually feel safe as houses. I did wonder though, about my relative safety in Rio. I won’t be staying anywhere grim and gritty as I’ve put aside a reasonable sum of money, but I did wonder how bad it can get for people out on their own.

Is crime a serious problem? More importantly, are people welcoming?
