Hey!

Me and 3 friends will be stopping in Budapest for 3 nights btwn Barcelona and Prague on our eurotrip next year and we are looking for any suggestions on where to go and what to do! Of course theres all the attractions listed online such as Castle Hill, Buda Castle, Thermal Baths, Parliament. Do you have any suggestions for 2 South Asian and European background Canadians in our mid 20s? I know I shouldn’t be worried. But how is Budapest for brown people? Any problems during nightlife. I expect a couple stares. Nevertheless I’m looking forward to discovering a new city that not many people I know from Canada go to visit. Like many of us we like to drink, meet new people, great architecture and adventure! Please let me know thanks.

Aside from the major attractions (of which there are many) I would recommend going caving, your hostel might have information on it. While the House of Terror (http://www.terrorhaz…) is kind of cool, most of the signs were not in english. Also, the nightlife is fantastic, apparently you can party in a turkish bath and it’s supposed to be wild, your hostel should know about that as well. There are also lost of other bars and it’s relatively cheap. I stayed at Hostel Goodmo (http://www.hostelboo…) which I highly recommend. The only thing is make sure that you take your passport back from them once they have photocopied it, because they didn’t give it back to me and I ended up trying to take a train out of Hungary without it, not a pleasent experience.

Also, looking at your trip. I would recommend taking out Prague and replacing it with Berlin. Far better city in my opinion.

thanks for the input! We actually went on a eurotrip in 2009 to paris, barcelona, milan, rome, munich, berlin, amsterdam, london so we chose Prague to try something new as alot of people seemed to have loved it. I`d be more interested in hearing if I should remove budapest and replace it with another city that I havn`t mentioned that we havn’t been to? We prefer big cities! thx

Budapest was one of my favorite cities in Europe and I couldn’t possibly advise that you replace it. That being said I found prague to be underwhelming and extremely touristy. Have you considered Vienna?

Prague really not worth it?? We’re big beer drinkers as well so being that they consume the most beer in the world was appealing as well! Most reviews I’ve read definately pick Prague over Vienna but I guess that’s a personal choice based on what your looking for. I’ve heard Vienna to be a little grey and dull and more geared towards people looking for history and museums etc. I figured in Prague we’d get that too but more partying perhaps and better balance for young adults? and a better pub crawl experience?

Vienna isn’t a favorite for me, but nearby Bratislava is. I also love Prague and Budapest. I found Vienna somewhat unfriendly and if you understand German you may overhear unfriendly remarks (I did). Bratislava is full of kids from Venna on the weekend — cheaper partying.

Bratislava is definatly cheaper, but a lot smaller. I imagine it would be hard to spend more than a couple of days without doing a few day trips.

If you’re a big fan of the pilsiner, prague is the way to go, otherwise Vienna is better. If partying, and a chaper time is what you’re looking for, and museums are not your thing, than Prague will definatly suit you guys better. One of the things I really enjoyed about Pargue was my day trip to the Sedlec Ossuary (http://en.wikipedia….)

Ohh I still wanna go to Budapest as I have heard a lot of good things about the city, which is raising to become a “hip city” of Europe.
I can not wait to go there, therefore I will be planning soon! My best friends should come with me to enjoy the time there. Smile
