Buses in Florence? Taxis?
Tue, 04/13/2010 - 20:18
Does anyone know how late the buses run in Florence? I am attending a concert on the other side of the river from the Duomo about a block from the Ponte Vecchio. The show won’t be over until at least 11pm. I’m wondering if I need to concentrate on finding a hostel close by the venue, or if it will be possible to catch a bus that late. Or maybe a cab would be a better option, but how much might that cost?
Anyone? Thanks.
I am leaving from Nashville, TN with $3000 for 21 days

I just checked out the Lonely Planet Florence city guide and it says that most buses stop running by 9 p.m. with a few routes that run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Florence isn’t really that big, so I can’t see a cab ride being very expensive. Give the bus website a shot:

Yea, Florence is a pretty compact city- so you should be fine with a taxi ride if you don’t feel comfortable walking to your hostel.
Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Santorini, Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Cinque Terre, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Zagreb, Grabovac (Plitvice), Split, Dubrovnik, London
That Lonely Planet guide says a cross-town ride should be about 10 euros and that women traveling alone after 9 p.m. can ask for a discount.
I checked out the website and it looks like, to pick up a bus that late at night, I have to first walk to the other side of Ponte Vecchio. In my imagination, walking across Ponte Vecchio seems the most dangerous part to me. Don’t ask me why. I guess I’ll just find a good hostel and then wait to see how I feel when I get over there and maybe take a taxi. I just don’t want to be the chick who gets mugged just because she decided to be prideful. I’m usually the girl trying to do all the things people tell her she oughtn’t because she’s just a girl. My family is already freaked out that I’m going on vacation in Europe alone (gasp!). And I’m 31! I guess your family is always your family.
Thanks for the info.
