Bye Bye Hey Baby

Oktoberfest bans alcopops
The Munich Beer Festival has banned alcopops and pop music to stop the event turning into a ‘drunken orgy’.
Scenes of drunken girls dancing semi naked on the backs of male party goers or on tables were flashed around the world last year.
Oktoberfest organisers now want to return to the festival’s roots by concentrating on beer steins and traditional brass bands.
Head of the festival Gabriele Weishaeupl said: "It has begun to turn into an orgy for party animals. The tents are not supposed to be discos, but should remain traditional Bavarian beer tents.
"Last year was one of the bawdiest years ever, with many an exposed nipple as well as the huge quantities of alcohol consumed."
Alcopops have been banned and beer tent owners have agreed to refrain from playing popular hits such as DJ Otzi’s Hey Baby and Lou Bega’s Mambo No 5.
An estimated six million visitors are expected to descend on Munich when the 172nd Oktoberfest takes place between September 17 and October 3.
Some of those tunes were getting old anyway. I welcome the change.

Where was that website? Banning alkopops? They will drink in secret. It would be the first time there would be change in Oktoberfest this year.
Here is the plan for the 2nd week of the fest:
9/28: Meeting LuvBeers, CRay, Grins, and some other Eurotrippers in
Weds front of the Schottenhamel Zelt at 1100 hrs..
9/29: Meeting same crew + some others in front of the Augistiner
Thur zelt at 1100 hrs..
9/30: Definately closing-down the Weinzelt Friday nite..
I will post my mobile nummer when I get it. Should have it on 9/23.

Since I don’t go every year…the tunes aren’t old….but remind me of what a great time I had. I’ve been looking forward to the chance to be in one of those tents again singing "Hey Baby"…alas that wont happen….for me its a shame…its funny but it kind of saddens me.
So did this story become true?
Hey Baby…That song is going to be stuck in my head forever. I have never seen so many people all singing out loud and people just couldn’t wait for them to play it again and again. It honestly doesn’t get old ‘cause people love it so much.
Oktoberfest was great.
They sung the Summer of 69 quite a bit too and they always waved the Canadian flag with it. Being a candian it made me feel right at home.

Are they still playing "Country Roads?".
I still heard that one last week, but only in the Hippodrom and Hofbrauhaus zelts – in the evening…

So they did play it or are you talking about past fests?
I did hear it this year (2005), but only 2 or 3 times at the most.. In past years (00, 01, 03) it was stuck in everyone’s head, because they played it in almost all the tents, and in pubs, etc… Over & over & over! Also, the drunks were stumbling back to their hotels & hostels at 0200 or 0300 hrs, singing it loudly each nite…

Thanks Sunskin…and thats hilarious. I remember last year I went..and about 3 weeks later I was in Roma Termini buying a ticket….I happen to be wearing an Oktoberfest t-shirt…and the girl behind the counter pointed at it, said she went too…and then she started singing "hey baby" haha!!! About 5 seconds in to it I joined her…and we finished a few lines and then we started laughing…it was great haha..
