Car Rental
Sat, 01/19/2008 - 16:02
[8|] Looking for tips on car rental in Germany for a month, summer 2008.
Please help with names of companies or deals….[&:]
Try the following websites for the major car rental agencies.
Don’t forget you will need to get an International Driving Permit as well.
Alamo – www.alamo.com
Avis – www.avis.com
Budget – www.budget.com
Hertz – www.hertz.com
Europcar – www.europcar.com
You should make your reservations before you go as it will probably cost you quite a bit more if you just show up when you get there and try to rent a vehicle then.
Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Bilbao, Santander, Oviedo, León, Vigo, Valladolid, Burgos
Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Gibraltar, Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona
London, Bath, Bristol, London, Edinburgh, Inverness, London
Sixt, AutoEurope, and Easycar, but I checked http://www.bookingbu… and it’s vendors sell from AutoEurope and Easycar, so that leaves only Sixt.de for you. I found $805 from Hotwire using 18Jun\9Jul, unlimited miles for a Corsa or Fiesta with manual transmission. However, check the others too as insurance seems to vary and could be the deciding factor.
in and out of dusseldorf, 5-29
I’m shopping for a good visa or MC for car rental deals . any opion on a good one?scotia passport visa gold maybe.
You mean credit card for possible insurance, or discounts on car rental, or both? Assuming you mean mostly for insurance, be aware that gold CCs offer secondary coverage with high deductible—at best—and maybe nothing at all. You have to read the fine print for the exact card agreement from the issuing bank, as coverages can vary.
All right, so you really don’t want to be helped cause you don’t care to mention 5-29 of WHICH MONTH.
Anyway, for me Alamo with Costco contract code usually proves to be the cheapest, but punching in 5-29 June from/to Dus gives total of whomping €657.98 for a compact with or without the code. For comparison interrent (http://www.interrent.com/pkw-autovermietung/de) comes up with the total of €269.90 for a compact for the same dates. Unfortunately (1) this rate includes only 4000 km at no charge and (2) there is no interrent location in Duseldorf so you’d have to go down to Cologne to pick up the car.
My advice in a nutshell:
(1) shop around
(2) keep an eye on http://www.rentalcodes.com/ and
(3) rent off-airport if possible.
Reason for #3 is that airport locations and some rail station location add extra 20% surcharge, so savings may be well worth going to the city, sleeping over and picking up the car the next day. Curiously, there is afaik no surcharge for dropping-off at the airport, so you shoul look into an option to rent “one-way” picking up in the city and dropping off at the airport.

] Sorry for lack of detail…interesting surmize on my character….
I ‘ve been doing some itense shopping around and thinking…….
trythe suggested regulars……checked in to bullshit discounts from Visa on Avis rentals in Germany.
Have you heard anything bad about Economycarrentals.com??
They include all insurances and come out cheaper???
with Airport service.
I am looking at a cofortable car as there are 4 adult sized people.
The month would be Aug. 2008…5-29.
Ouch ….been around the block and around the clock on the internet….shopping for any credit card, car rental, trip cancelation deals…..
For aug 2008…..
seems like scotia visa gold passport is bullshit on the Avis discount . at least in Germany.
But I think I’ll pay the $120 CAD to get the trip cancelation insurance on that Visa product…..or the $69. CAD upgrade on my existing no fee MC to get the trip cancelation there.
I’ll be purchasing BCAA medical insurance.$5,000,000 Cad for three of us it is only $102 CAD
do you have anything to say about economy car rentas.com?????
Congratulations! [
] If you are looking for a rental that includes CDW coverage then what you’ve already found is better then anything I can possibly suggest. IMHO with four adults you don’t want to drive Merecedes A-Class (I did once, it was horrible) so you should reserve in E class, according to their list, and hope you get Ford Mondeo. The total of €890,46 with complete insurance is a pretty good deal. I’ve never heard about that company (just like I’ve never heard about so many other things) but my only concern would be to make sure that if you need to cancel you can get most of your money back.
Sorry, I don’t know that source. I would use normal good practice if you want to rent from them—ie, where is their physical address? Is there a profile for them with BBB (if in USA?)? What does google turn up about them? And if you feel good about all of that, then of course book only with credit card for purchase protection… but you probably already know that.
here’s some car rental coupons
