CARNIVALE BRAZIL!!!!!!
Sat, 01/29/2005 - 22:06
hi everyone i’m keen on doing brazil when the carnivale is on… i want to know if any1 has ever been before and what they thought of it, and how dangerous is it? is it as bad as people say it is?
thank you, montes
come on guys some1 has got to know about it
Ok, so i’m not the most qualified person on the subject since i’ve never even been to brazil, but since no one has helped you out yet, i’ll take a stab at it. I live in new orleans and the carnival we have here is somewhat similar to carnivale in brazil. 1) With big parties like this much of the city shuts down (including public transportation) making it extremely difficult to navigate the city if you don’t know what you’re doing. 2)Prices are sure to jump… a lot. 3)Local vendors rip you off even more than usual. 4)Ignore all the negative comments people say about carnivale and just go if you’re drawn to it.
Not much help, i know. Have you checked the lonely planet site yet?
i guess any advice is better than no advice, right? i’ve never been to the carnival in brazil either…but i’ve lived in mexico for 2 years, and they also have huge carnival celebrations. i spent mine in the city of veracruz. you’re absolutely right. all transportation shuts down. it’s chaos. pure chaos. i’m not saying that pure chaos isn’t a helluva good time. but just be super smart in this kind of situation. it’s extremely crowded. some people ARE there just to make money off of you, whether it’s selling you beer at outrageous prices, or just plain old pick pocketing. take water. don’t think that the vendor will actually sell you anything other than beer or soda. most of the soda is cafeinated, so that’ll dehydrate you even more, and who needs that after hours of dancing in the sun? don’t do it by yourself! call for a place to say WAAAYYY ahead of time. and take tons of pictures!
your right zoopo any advice is good, thanx heaps guys for responding about the carnivale, i’ve been to one in Uruguay but that was only small… kurly i havent checked the lonley planet guide thanx for the tip.
if any1 has been to brazil carnivale let us know…
