Catholic Churches
Tue, 04/10/2007 - 09:37
My boyfriend and I will be traveling Europe for a few weeks in July this summer. While at Easter mass this past weekend I mentioned we should really try and go to a church overseas (see what its like in another language and culture). I know we’ll be in Berlin and Amsterdam on Sundays, so I’m guessing this is our best option. Does anyone know of any super old or unique catholic churches in these two locations?
We’re open to other denominations as well, it’d just be easier to follow along in another language at a Catholic church.
Thanks.

I love the dome at St Hedwigs
check out the hidden church in Amsterdam
Museum Amstelkring, Our Lord in the attic
very cool. basically after the Dutch kicked out the Spanish (who were their Catholic rulers), Catholicism was outlawed. So the Catholics practiced their illegal religion in secret………and this rich businessman decides to build a church in the top floors of his house. 3 levels, organ, pews, a real church. Most people walk by this church in the red light district and have no idea that inside the house ( still furnished as the guy’s house on the first 2 levels) is a church. Hope you get to check it out.
London, Paris, Tours, Caen, La Rochelle, Annecy, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Rome
First of all I want to make clear you probably won’t see a lot of people in mass in Europe, in the Netherlands I’m seriously doubting if there will be anyone inside the church that isn’t a tourist…
I can advice the ‘Berliner Dom’ in Berlin:
– Sunday and holidays: 10h – 18h
– mon – sat: 12u
– thursday: 18u (special concert: free of charge)
