Hello –

I just want to thank the creators/moderators of this site. You guys helped me find a great fare last year for myself and a friend (Houston to Berlin, then Barcelona back to Houston.) I posted under “I Love Rick Steves.” The trip was everything we had hoped for and then some, and we couldn’t beat the price we paid for airfare (just under $800 total.) To say the least, life has been incredible busy since we have gotten back, so we are only now reflecting on the trip which happened last June!

I have been invited to a wedding in Germany this November, and I am trying to get some advice on finding good fares for that time of year. I plan on arriving earlier than everyone else, to travel a bit before eventually ending up in Cologne for the wedding.

I am thinking the cheapest locations to fly into would be London or Amsterdam. I was thinking of flying into London, spending three days there – then catching a train to Cologne (wedding), then flying out of Frankfurt back to Houston. Or doing the same, but flying into Amsterdam instead. I plan for the trip to be 10 days long. That would mean flying to Europe around Nov.16, then coming back to the US around Nov.28.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!

Thank you

JP

Although good fares can pop up almost any time, I think it’s too early to look seriously for November airfares now (late April). Go ahead and sign up for alerts on IAH-LON, IAH-AMS, and IAH-FRA for example, with Airfarewatchdog and Farecompare, but you’re more likely to see November sales start to pop up mid-July onward.

With these locations by train, also consider flights to/from DUS, BRU, CGN, and maybe PAR—if you want to include that in your itinerary.

A quick check of published fares just now looks like IAH-AMS those dates ~ $880 currently. Not bad, but it’s not open-jaw (multi-city).

Cool, thanks Don. I am going to forward this information to others I know who are planning to attend the wedding.

Again, thanks for this great resource.

Best regards,

Joshua
