Cheap flights to Europe
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 03:26
Ok this might be a dumb question, but I’m always hearing people talk about deals on flights from the US to Europe, but I’m having trouble finding any. I’ve been looking, and most flights are going to cost over $1300. I am flying in the beginning of August and am wanting to Fly out of either Chicago, Nashville, or Orlando (they are all options, but weird I know) and fly into Florence/Pisa, but could fly into Frankfurt. Am I missing something here? Where is everyone finding these “cheap” flights?

The keys are
1. Flexibility
2. Low season
3. Being well-informed and acting quickly!
Airfares between North America and Europe are higher or lower based on season — Winter (low), Spring/Fall (shoulder), and Summer (peak). A $500 fare in November or February becomes $800 in September or April, becomes $1100+ in June, July, or August. The cheapest fares are for dead-of-winter, except around holidays such as Christmas weeks.
Additionally, you have to be flexible to get the cheapest fares. Be as flexible as possible on departure cities (sounds like you are), arrival cities (sounds like you aren’t), and dates of travel. For example, instead of BNA (Nashville) to FLR (Florence) with a June 5 departure ($1544 currently), departing a week earlier O’hare (ORD) to Rome (FCO) is only $1021 currently. This partly due to getting outbound before peak season pricing begins on June 1 on this route, and partly due to using bigger airports. You might find it even cheaper if you use BookingBuddy and the consolidators listed in our new user thread—at the top of this forum.
Sign up for fare alerts with Bing and/or Farecompare. Also bookmark AirfareWatchdog and check them, and their Facebook page, daily; I think they do RSS feeds too. Be ready to book when a truly extraordinary fare pops up, because the good ones get snatched up fast!
More specifically for your itinerary just now, be sure to check out the Swiss sale fares from Chicago. I just posted a link to that.
I am seeing $965 some dates in June on Chicago-Frankfurt with Air India. However, you might do better with the Swiss sale, or a consolidator, to Italy instead.
Air India….. I travelled by Pakistan Air once, horrible experience….. this must be the same!
No, they are 2 different national airlines of 2 different countries. Further reading here: http://en.wikipedia…. and http://en.wikipedia….
I meant the same as in the same sh*t
