Cheap Flights out of Texas!?
Mon, 04/02/2007 - 23:15
If anyone sees a cheap flight from SAT or HOU to London, Dublin, Madrid, or Paris for the first week of June please let me know! I have been looking for a while but all the prices are rediculous. Thanks guys.
Kenneth
Cheap flight to where?
Hey, you know that June 1st and beyond is peak season, right? If you leave a week earlier, you save $200 out of Houston. I didn’t check SAT though. I think HOU will be your better bet. But anyways, try to get out before May 31st and you can save a bundle. I found a ticket for $750 out of HOU on May 28th. Damn good deal if you ask me…especially at this time of year.
Good advice about outbound late May if possible. I see a price difference of $200+.
I’ll definitly look into it, but I’m not out of school until MAy 31st, but if it comes down to that much money, I might make arrangements.
I saw your itinerary thread, but I don’t recall exactly how long you’re planning to stay. Orbitz found IAH – SNN (Shannon, Ireland) $695 total using June 3 outbound, June 29 return. Ireland seems like the cheapest destination in Europe from SAT, IAH, and HOU, with outbound early June. I checked all over Europe using ITA, then ran the cheapest destiantions (SNN and DUB) through Orbitz’s flex-date search +/- 3 days.
Once you have exact dates in mind, you should run it through www.bookingbuddy.com — especially the consolidators there, because I’ve noticed some decent offers with June outbound. AllCheapFares, CheapO, Cheaptickets, FlyCheapAbroad, Airfare.com, Airfare Gorilla, Travelation are the ones I’d try via Bookingbuddy (so you don’t have to type the cities and dates over and over for each one—just once with B’buddy).
I’d be really careful about asking professors to let you take exams early. I’m all about the travel, but even I would probably tell you no, and some of my colleagues would a) rip you a new one just for asking and b) thereafter not give you any breaks when it comes to your grade (bumping you up if you’re oh so close to a higher grade etc.).
You’re planning on staying for two months, right?
Not to change the subject but that really surprises me, why?
Thanks a lot for the help Don, I want to leave as soon as possible after June 1st, but I am flexible. The fare you found in Ireland is really good, but unfortunately wouldn’t work for me, I’ll be staying in Europe a hair over two months. I have tried all the student websites you suggested earlier, and can’t seem to find anything under $900, although I ran a search for two weeks earlier and got some for $700. I’ll look at bookingbuddy and see what I can find. I don’t really know how to use ITA though. If you happen to see anything please do let me know. SAT is quite a bit closer to where I live, but HOU isn’t a problem if we are talking about more than $100. Haven’t been able to find anything great yet, but I’ll keep checking, your advice always helps Don. On a side note, how hassle-free would a Ryanair flight from Dusseldorf to Stockholm be? I am considering taking one to save time, and I see some for only about 25 Euros with taxes included.
Augustin25, yeah I wasn’t sure exactly what my last final exam date was, but you’re right, it surely wouldn’t be a good idea to try to leave any earlier. June 1st is the soonest sadly.
Look into the transport options for the Dusseldorf airport (which is Weeze, I think, not Dusseldorf) and the Stockholm airport (which if I recall correctly is way out of Stockholm). Other than that, if you are on time for your check-in and don’t have too much luggage, Ryanair is hassle-free 99% of the time or more. The times when it is not are when a flight is delayed or cancelled, but other airlines also can have problems too.
Personally, though, I wouldn’t buy budget airline tickets until your intercontinental tickets are definitely purchased.
This is not the best deal in the history of aviation, but I’ll mention it anyway:
June 4 – August 4, HOU-JFK-DUB and SNN-ORD-SAT for $913 (ITASoftware, AA and Delta)

June 4 – August 3
IAH-PHL-MAN
DUB-IAH
US Airways
