Cheapest flights from Florida to Europe...
Thu, 12/27/2007 - 03:16
I live in Tampa, but I’m looking for the cheapest possible flights from either Orlando, Miami, or even Atlanta to anywhere in Europe.
I’ve tried Tampa and Jacksonville airports, but they all have connecting flights in the U.S. and are more expensive.
The best I’ve found so far is Miami to Dusseldorf or Miami to Amsterdam just under $1000.
My dates are early June to early July round trip.
Anyone have any suggestions/ideas? Thank you!

Using ITA, I found:
June 3 – July 3
$827
American + others
MIA to DUB
MAN to MCO
Stops in EWR on the outbound and ORD on the return.
There are various other airport combinations too, both in the US and Europe, including TPA. I don’t know if you will get cheaper than $827 all-in.
In ’06, I had good luck with Condor Airlines out of Orlando, to Frankfurt. It looks like their summer flights are limited these days, but it might be worthwhile to keep an eye on them.
The following year, our kid had an okay experience with FlyGlobespan (he flew into Orlando) but it helped that he has good friends in Glasgow. Once again, they now seem limited for summer. Too bad!
Right now on Farecompare, Northwest showed $863 JAX>CDG all in (and yes, you have to connect in Detroit.)
LTU, Martinair, Icelandair, Globespan, and Condor go from Orlando airports (Icelandair and Globespan from Sanford). You normally have to check those airlines individually for best offers:

I read recently that LTU might shift from Orlando to Melbourne (Fla.). They also go from Ft. Myers and Miami to Germany.
If you could somehow depart on/before May 31, you might find slightly cheaper fares. Many airlines begin “peak” season pricing on June 1; departure date determines fare “season”.
For example, with ITA I see Delta+American $773 total departing May 31 Orlando-Heathrow, returning July 1 DUB-Orlando (via Miami out, via O’hare return).
