Cheapest place to eat in London
Thu, 08/17/2006 - 16:14
Where is the cheapest place to eat in london? Vendor on the corner of ? and ? Some cheap buffet in a train station. (wouldn’t that be nice?) Chinese food, fish and chips, whatever, Something edible and cheap.

For a good cheap Indian meal, head over to Brick Lane, for cheap Chinese Meal, head over to Chinatown and find one of those places ‘all you can eat’
There is this place called JD Whetherspoons where you can get a burger, fries and a pint of beer for 5pounds!!!!!
Good Luck
Sadly, it’s probably something along the lines of McDonalds.
I plan on spending a lot of time in london during my 4 1/2 month eurotrip, so if anyone else has any suggestions that would be great. Is there such a thing as cheap fast food in europe, similar to the U.S. chains, besides Mcdonalds, since i eat there everday already, haha. With the exchange rate at about $1.90/1BP i’m sure food will be a huge part of my budget in london.
I found a great place to get a cheap and fulfilling buffet at a convenience store near the Millenium United Nations Hotel in New York City. Surely, London has something like that right?
there is tons of cheap fast food in most of europe (be it baguette in france…cheap hole in the wall trattorias in italy…or doner kebabs everywhere)…when you’re talking uk though…it’s relatively expensive across the board.
coco6 is right, i was fortunate enough to have my cousin take me to a pub with a similar special, although i think mine was about 4 pounds, suprisingly though no tourists were there and youd have never found it without being shown.
hey this is kinda off topic but i have been seeing the word "donor kebobs" everywhere…what kind of food is it exactly?
f.y.i reason i would like to know is i plannin on backpacking threw europe and i could use all the tips possible…thanks guys/girls
I think i heard somewhere that they were something like a gyro wrap with lamb or chicken inside.
Donor kebaps are a cheap tourist’s friend. They are very tasty. In London, you can get something similar at many street-side stands – basically a wrap and chips for a few pounds.
Check out
Khans and
Lahori Kabab House
Very reasonable.

There are lots of cheap places to eat. On Waterloo Road, across from the station – 2 places – 1. Marios, good sandwiches, always friendly. 2. Just a block down, toward the IMAX – Fishcoteque. I know, it sounds gross, but it’s basically London’s KFC. Chicken and chips for a 2.5 pounds. It doesn’t get cheaper than that.
Lots of places have lunch specials. Pizza Hut was surprisingly cheap. They have some deals that fed 6 people for about 5 pounds each, including dessert.
I would suggest to splurge a bit every now and then. The Thai food there was incredible.
Also, go to the markets. You can get cheap pastries late at night. Beer’s cheaper there, too. Good luck.
I’ve mentioned this place before. It’s a bhel puri house at 92 Chapel Market, near the Angel tube stop, where you can get an all-you-can-eat vegan Indian meal for 3 pounds (or at least that was the summer 2006 price).
I got food poisoning from a kebab on my last trip. Not worth it.
I went to Maoz Falafel in Amsterdam, and it’s very good for what it is, but I haven’t tried the London Maoz Falafel. Chances are it’s a good, cheap meal, though.

MAOZ FALAFEL CAFE
43 Old Compton Street, London W1D 6HG.
Tel: 020 7851 1586 (tube: Leicester Sq; Tottenham Ct. Rd.)
4 Brewer Street, London W1 – smaller version of above
The one time I ate in chinatown I got food poisoning, so not reccomended by me. In London you generally get what you pay for, but if you hunt around a little you can find something nice.
