cheapest way to get from Munich to Italy?
Sat, 08/29/2009 - 20:39
I am a bit stuck with this one. Ryan air offers cheap flights from Memmingen airport but getting there from Munich seems a bit difficult, especially in the early hours. Anyone ever done this? A train to Venice is another option, but its a long ride and the Bahn website doesn’t have prices for some reason. Any cities on the way worth spending a day in? Thanks.
I am leaving from Philadelphia, PA with $5000 for 38 days

An overnight train would work for this route. There are specials on Bahn.de as low as 53 euros with seat reservation or 69 euros in a 6 berth couchette on the direct overnight at 21:03. Not a bad price when you figure it replaces a night in a hostel. Bahn.de does have the prices for some trains on this route. What dates are you using?

I’m in the same situation as you are right now (trying to get from Munich to Italy, preferably Venice second weekend of September). Best I’ve found was still Ryanair to Pisa. for 2 people for the day I want it’s 75 Euros, and plus train to Memmingen (which goes every hour from Munich, even in the morning) and it was, I think, 12 Euros per person.
I would be thrilled if anybody found a better/cheaper way.
