Cinque Terre Hiking
Mon, 03/10/2008 - 20:48
Is it realistic to expect that two 18-year olds with no serious hiking experience can cover the ground between Genoa and La Spezia in Northwestern Italy over four days?
P.S. Is camping along the way a possibility? Do we need to find camp grounds or could we just pitch a tent in the middle of the countryside?
Thanks,
Oscar
Soooo… does anyone know how the italians (or europeans in general) feel about random tent-pitching? Especially in the middle of the countryside? The more I look at Cinque Terre, the more I think that’s the best option.
I am also wondering about this. Looking into doing myabe a smaller hike in the area even.
Did anyone find out information on this? I would like to do this!
Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, Milan, Paris, London
Pescara, Capri, Castelvetrano, Pescara

Although I don’t have much experience with this area, I know that you would not have many opportunities to do so on the other parts of the Mediterranean coast. All land near the see is owned by some entity or other, so either you would be pitching a tent on a cliff, or on somebody’s farmland or private estate (trespassing). You prob. need to plan to be at certain designated camp sites within the Cinque Terre. There should be some because the area is a national park (or some type of state park).
Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Mostar, Sarajevo, Bol, Makarska, Florence, Málaga, Seville, Barcelona, Ibiza Town
I think it is safe to say that I should book a hostel. Thanks!
